MISSION

Our Purpose
The mission of the DeFilippo Institute Institutional Review Board is to act as a safeguard for all participants of any studies conducted by our organization, assuring their safety and well-being.
Our rural region faces profound mental health disparities, unsustainable economic hardships, complex racial dynamics, as well as many other difficulties. That is why the IRB is committed to producing research that is performed to the highest possible ethical standard, especially in the service of the most vulnerable individuals within the population.
We promote impartial and inclusive research practices by requiring informed consent on behalf of the participant, complete transparency, cultural sensitivity, and justice in all research protocols and procedures.
We review and monitor research activities and makes changes to, or disapprove of projects and actions that could be considered unethical, dangerous, or problematic in another way. This ensures our compliance with 45 CFR 46 and other federal regulations, ethical guidelines such as the Belmont Report, with consideration for the specific needs of our community.
The purpose of the DeFilippo Institute IRB is not only to protect participants but also to increase community trust in research designed to imcrease the quality of lives, enhance social opportunities, and increase our understanding of human psychology.
